CONDITION OF REEF FLAT IN PAINAN BAY PESISIR SELATAN DISTRICT SUMATERA BARAT PROVINCE

ABSTRACK
A survey was conducted in Painan Bay, Pesisir Selatan Regency, West Sumatera Province in Mei 2009. The aim of this survey was to find out the coral reef conditions, base on the hard living coral cover. Snorcling and Line Intercept Transect Methods were applied in this survey. There were three station located at reef flat in 3m depth.
The result showed that the reef were very good and good conditions. The hard living coral cover at station I was 76.66%, station II was 74.63%, and station III was 69.53%. Diversity indeks at station I was 3.2074, station II was 3.0820, dan station III was 3.1023, and domination index at station I was 0.13, station II was 0.13, and station III was 0.11. All water quality parameter measured indicated that th water condition is suitable to supported coral life. However, damages of the reefs mainly caused by anchor the ship and tourism activities
